A crown is a cap made of all-ceramic material that fits exactly over a tooth or molar.
What is a bridge?
A bridge is two or more crowns that are connected to each other via a bridge part. The bridge is made by our dental technician to replace missing teeth. These bridges are always very solid because we connect the metal parts well with the durable porcelain. This porcelain is wear-resistant so that we can even make the chewing surfaces of porcelain.
When is a crown needed?
A crown is needed if:
Too much of the tooth or molar has disappeared due to tooth decay to be able to make a filling.
The tooth has broken off due to an accident.
The teeth are so discolored that it is desirable from a cosmetic point of view.
A tooth has had a root canal treatment that makes them more susceptible to fracture.
What is the lifespan of a crown?
Depending on the health of the tooth or molar underneath, a crown will last for many years. It is important to know that a crown is not completely insensitive to tooth decay. Keeping the crown and gums clean is therefore very important.
What does a crown at the dentist cost?
This can differ per (pre-) treatment. You can request a budget for the treatment with an indication of the costs. The dentist will charge the costs of the crown itself separately. The costs are partly determined by the material of which the crown is made and the durability. The dentist calculates the purchase costs for this; on request you have the right to view the invoice for the crown.
